St. Andrews
Cabernet Sauvignon 2006
| Region: | Clare Valley |
Complex and elegant, offering rich fruit characters of cassis and blackcurrant with earthy nuances. French oak giving hints of cedar and tobacco to finish.
At release, the wine is a dark red colour with a faint brick red hue to the edge. The depth and intensity of the colour means it should hold for many years to come.
Wine Bouquet
The wine has lifted and distinctly varietal aromas of cassis, mint and violets along with fresh, vibrant blackcurrant fruit and subtle cigar and tobacco from the oak.
Wine Palate
The palate has a classic Cabernet structure with bright fruit up front, mint freshness through the mid palate and finishing with long, fine-grained tannins. These characters are matched with lashings of chocolate, cedar and cinnamon from the French oak maturation. It is a generous wine which is beautifully ripened yet retains poise and the elegance of great Cabernet Sauvignon.
Cellaring Notes
The wine is evolving well at release yet should cellar well to 2016 possibly longer.

St. Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon 2006Lisa Perrotti Brown, Robert ParkerÆs Wine Advocate, December 2010
Medium-deep garnet colored, offers a nose of earth, Chinese dried plums, kirsch, creme de cassis, licorice, espresso and cinnamon stick. Full bodied with a high level of fine knit tannins, it offers plenty of layered fruit with crisp acid. The long finish still shows a little oak. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2017+.
St. Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon 2006Robert Parker, The Wine Advocate, December 2010
2006 St Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon reveals a deep garnet color and slightly closed nose of warm black cherries, marmite, yeast, toast, nuts, warm plums, cloves, cigar boxes and the faintest whiff of bay leaf. With a great concentration of flavors balanced by crisp acid and firm fin-grained tannins, this full bodied Cabernet gives a long satisfying finish. Drinking now, it should cellar to 2020.Top 100 Wines - Taylors

Refined, ripe and elegant with good varietal character and structure, starting out blackcurrant and black cherry cabernet with a savoury streak and long on structure with good concentration of varietal flavours and oak. The 06 is a gem.
St. Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon 2006Australian Wine Annual, November 2011
A sumptuous, densely packed and slightly old-fashioned cellar style whose sightly meaty, gamey aromas of dark plums and berries are backed by smoky cedar/vanilla oak and minty nuances of menthol. Saturated with deeply ripened flavours of cassis, dark berries and plums, it's long, firm and drying, tightly knit with assertive new mocha oak and with and intence enough core of fruit to handle the long finish.
St. Andrews Cabernet Sauvignon 2006The Wine Enthusiast Magazine, March 2012
A perennial favorite, Wakefield St. Andrews bottling shows how good certain parts of Clare can be for Cabernet Sauvignon. The 2006 displays a masterful blend of cedar, chocolate, mocha, cassis, baking spices and leather, all wrapped in an elegant coat of dusty but supple tannins. Drink 2015û2025.
