    Excellent
Dark and brooding at first with mint, chocolate berryfruit and growing florality. Lovely volume to the palate, the tannins supple and nicely integrated, the fruit ripe, yet not over-sweet with a little char in support. The tannic grip shows a little more with aeration and this works as a whole. Pleasantly surprised to discover this is a Merlot.

Rich ripe fruit aromas - mulberry, bramble berry and juicy black cherry - leap frm the glass decorated with sprigs of savoury herbs. It captures the palate with a surge of dark cherry/berry flavours adorned with black licorice, mocha, vanilla bean and plenty of tang-infused pizzazz. It's medium-full bodied with creamy-smooth texture, deft balance, terrific value and a delicious dry finish and aftertaste with hints of mineral notes. Give this a go with grilled rack of lamb. This is good to go now and on to 2025.

Dark fruited bouquet with baked plums and dark cherry, some blue orchard fruits and baking spices of oak. Inviting, earthy and mildly complex overall. Equally dark fruited on the palate with flavours of plums and black currant, vanilla and walnut -like oak flavours, mild toastiness. Fine easy tannins and medium acidity, balanced, well made and ready. Drink upon purchase and through 2024.

Juicy, fruity merlot from Clare. Luscious and velvety smooth with fruitcake and dark chocolate. Tannins are soft and supple but there is plenty of lingering flavour.

From the Clare Valley Wine Region in South Australia, this is a Merlot beauty with dark plum, minty, mocha, toasty oak and smoky flavours on the palate. Savoury and delicious.

Plush, with velvety tannins and fragrant black tea notes that mingle with blackberry and currant flavors at the core, showing off a touch of caramel on the finish. Drink now through 2019.

It's Christmas in a bottle, with fruitcake-like flavours of leathery, juicy plum, dark sour cherries, dried herbs and a 14% alcohol that's fairly evident. Tannins are drying but not overpowering, while the palate, with a little mocha creeping in, is fairly smooth through to its better-than-average finish. It'll cellar until 2025, and could probably use a couple years to round out.

Quite fresh plums and dark berries take center stage here, amid a soft, supple structure. Drink now. Screw cap.

The fragrant nose on this Merlot offers spicy ripe currant and green herbal aromas with savoury, earthy, and vanilla undertones. It's medium-bodied on the ripe, slightly candied and jammy palate with blackberry, minty cassis, vanilla, and sweet spice flavours with touches of plum. Acids are fresh while soft, supple tannins have some texture. Savoury wood spice and chocolate notes linger on the finish, with good length. Crafted in a casual, crowd-pleasing style.

Screw cap. Ultra-ripe in style, this is a wonderful Merlot: luscious in texture, fairly rich, and moderately complex in aroma/flavor (cassis, blackberry, toast, blueberry), with excellent balance and length. Wonderful value! Can be aged further. Aged in American and French oak barrels, 10% new.

Smooth, plum-saturated and crammed with cherry and soft pepper and cocoa characters on the nose and palate, this is a warm, juicy, easy-like-sunday-morning red wine that will wow the crowds. South Australian merlot isn’t something we see a huge amount of here in NZ, which is a shame because I like it. Juicy, smooth, chocolatey and chock full of flavour, simple, uncomplicated and satisfying.
