A perfect treat for the cooler months or a festive celebration.
1 x 750ml bottle of Taylors wine
1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup orange juice
Peel of one lemon
Peel of one orange
1 x packet of spice mix packed for Taylors Wines by Herbie’s Spices
Place the sugar, lemon and orange peel and the whole packet of the spice mix into a large saucepan and place on medium heat. Add just enough of the red wine to the pan to ensure the sugar, citrus peel & spices are covered and slowly cook for 4-5 minutes until it becomes thick and sticky and the spices have infused into the syrup.
At this stage, add the rest of the wine and the orange juice and turn the heat down to very low. You don’t want the liquid to boil. Gently simmer for 5 minutes and then serve warm with slices of fresh orange in heatproof glasses or mugs.
