At release, the wine has a deep ruby red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges.
There are lifted aromas of dark blackcurrant fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt.
On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.
After fermentation in barrel and battonage, otherwise known as yeast lees stirring, the wine was matured for 8 months in French oak barrels (60% new, 20% 2 year old and 20% 3year old) the wine was blended and then bottled.
Growing conditions leading up to vintage 2013 could best be described as benign, apart from a few frost events in mid-October. There were very few significant rainfall events over the growing period with the season being described overall as dry. The first week of December saw rainfall which was most definitely a season changer. Without the rain event, the overall yields from 2013 would have been very low. Harvest conditions were excellent, allowing for a long ripening period and our winemakers report that quality is outstanding across all varieties, with excellent flavour development and tannin ripeness displayed in the resultant wines.
Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.
