Colour At release, the wine is a dark red colour with a faint brick red hue to the edge.
Nose The wine has lifted and distinctly varietal aromas of cassis, dark cherries, choc-mint and sweet spice along with fresh, vibrant blackcurrant fruit and subtle cigar and tobacco from the oak.
Vintage Conditions Vintage 2009 was near on perfect in the Clare Valley. It was characterized by optimal growing conditions and soil moisture levels near full capacity due to the welcome winter rains. Mild weather continued during December and January, gradually warming to the point where we experienced a severe heat-wave. Thankfully the vines had not yet begun veraison, so in the heat, they simply shut down for a few days. Strong canopies protected the fruit and mature leaves withstood the high temperatures. Fortunately, when the heat subsided the region experienced perfect ripening weather with mild days and cool nights. The wines from vintage 2009 are exceptionally well balanced; showing rich, varietal fruit flavours.

    Piercing tannins and a touch of fresh green pepper. A hearty wine that will make a great accompaniment to red meat dishes. If you like gutsy wine, this one is for you.

    A big, black and bold mouthful of ripe bramble fruits, mint and cassis, the palate deep and intense but elegantly balanced and finely textured with the fruit richness offset by savoury herbal and black olive characters and dry, slightly mouth-puckering tannins on the finish. Lovely drinking.

    Taylors describe the 2009 vintage as "near on perfect in the Clare Valley", allowing beautiful expression of their flagship variety. Full red in the glass, this Cabernet seduces with rich lifted plum, cassis and mint aromas. The palate is bright and savoury with a fresh core of curranty fruit, quality background cedary oak, a smooth, juicy texture and plush ripe tannins.

    Still two years away from release but an exciting new development in the St Andrews range. Only the most exceptional fruit off the Cabernet block make it into this wine. Deeply redolent of cassis, tobacco and cigar box with undercurrents of cherry. This is elegance personified, the iron fist in the velvet glove with a core of black cherry, currant, tobacco and dark choc, there’s a little Cabernet leafiness, a seamless structure and beguiling tannin framework.
