Chief Winemaker Adam Eggins named in 2024 edition of global ‘Master Winemaker 100’ guide

Global drinks publications The Drinks Business have unveiled their 2024 edition of the Master Winemaker 100, with Clare Valley’s Adam Eggins from Taylors Wines joining the prestigious list of distinguished winemakers to be named in the guide.

The Drinks Business Master Winemaker 100 rewards the best winemakers in the world, as determined by the wines judged in the Global Wine Masters competitions. Eggins achieved ‘Master’ status with two of his wines winning Master medals in the Global Wine Masters competitions - one for The Visionary Cabernet Sauvignon 2016 and one for Taylors Hotelier Shiraz 2020.

Eggins was named amongst a total of eight South Australian-based winemakers and is the only Clare Valley producer to be named on the prestigious list.

“It’s exciting to be recognised on this list of my peers and friends in the industry. The Global Wine Masters is a terrific opportunity for our wines to be tasted and judged against examples from all over the world, giving us a real insight into how our wines stack up against some of the world’s best winemakers. To win two Master medals and be named on this list of Master Winemakers is a great honour for us to share and celebrate here at the winery,” Eggins said.

The win for Adam comes off a successful year of international acclaim for Taylors Wines, with our Heritage Shiraz 2022 picking up a perfect 100-point rating and the trophy for International Champion at the VINUS International Wines & Spirits Competition in Argentina, as well as the trophies for Best Shiraz and Wine of the Year (Import) for Taylors St Andrews Shiraz 2020 at the San Diego International Wine & Spirits Challenge.

Eggins first joined Taylors Wines as our senior winemaker in 1999 and has been instrumental in building an impressive international reputation for the winery through our wines ever since. In 2006, Eggins was recognised as Australian Winemaker of the Year by Winestate Magazine and was a finalist again in 2007 and 2010.
