Red Wine Hot Chocolate

The winter months calls for cosy nights in with red wine and hot chocolate. This recipe will show you how to mix these two delicious ingredients together. 


  • 140 g dark chocolate, finely chopped
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tbsp packed brown sugar
  • 1/4 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 1 1/2 cups shiraz (a wine with chocolate notes)
  • Optional cinnamon stick, marshmallows or whipped cream to serve


  1. In a large saucepan, whisk the cocoa powder, chocolate, brown sugar and cinnamon together.
  2. Place saucepan on medium heat and add the milk.
  3. Continue to stir occasionally until hot and smooth.
  4. Remove the saucepan from heat and add the shiraz.
  5. Pour the red wine hot chocolate among 7 mugs and top with the optional marshmallow or whipped cream, and serve.
