Region | Clare Valley 72% / Coonawarra 28% |
Colour | At release, the wine has a deep ruby red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges. |
Nose | There are lifted aromas of dark blackcurrant fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt. |
Palate | This is a rich full-bodied wine that will benefit from time in the bottle. It is a well-balanced wine across the palate with fine, elegant tannins – the hallmark of great Cabernet. Intense flavours of blackcurrant and cassis delight with subtle savoury French oak characters of cedar and spice. The finish is long and persistent. |
Vintage Conditions | The 2012 vintage is described as excellent by all winemakers. Good winter rains and a lack of frost resulted in optimal conditions throughout the growing season, however above average temperatures from November to January did result in lower yields in most varieties. January was also very dry and these dryer than normal conditions progressed into February, although later in the month a period of very cool nights and mild but warm days set in which served to effectively slow the ripening process. The grapes thus had time to reach optimum ripening maturity and overall, the red varieties are highly coloured, concentrated and varietal. This promises to be a vintage to collect. |
Oak Maturation | The wine was matured in French oak barrels (50% 1 year old, 50% a combination of 2 and 3 year old) for a period of 10 to 12 months before being bottled. |
Cellaring Notes | Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions. |
