Previous Vintages 2009, 2010, 2012, 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017
Region Clare Valley 56% / Coonawarra 44%
Colour At release, the wine has a deep ruby red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges.
Nose There are lifted aromas of dark blackcurrant fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt.
Palate On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.
Vintage Conditions In the Clare Valley, the growing season was warm and dry for vintage 2018, the only year in recent times warmer was 2016, which produced some excellent wines. One of the great things about this vintage, though, was that we avoided major heatwaves during vintage and so to that end, vintage was relatively calm and controlled. Overall, our winemaking team are very excited about the quality of the wines. The Coonawarra vintage generally delivered superb conditions, leading to fruit of outstanding quality being harvested. The winter and spring rainfall leading into the season was excellent with good conditions for fruit set. The yields were moderate and the slow, cool ripening delivered fruit with fine tannins and strong varietal flavours.
Oak Maturation The wine was matured in French oak barrels (50% 1 year old, 50% a combination of 2 and 3 year old) for a period of 10 -12 months before being bottled.
Cellaring Notes Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.

    93/100
Deep, minty, utterly substantial full-bodied blend of Coonawarra & Clare Valley Cabernet, with leagues of dark berry flavour and then a long, drying finish. Inelegant, unquestionably, but pretty compelling in the sheer volume of fruit. Just misses a gold because of the minty edge, but the impact is bang on for this price point. Why is it so much better than the Shiraz? It’s just more savoury, which switches it from a ‘yeah, nah, that’s a bit much or me’ to ‘well this has some flavour doesn’t it’.

The first thing you get with this Clare and Coonawarra blend of cabernet is the distinctive minty peppermint aroma that is a regional thing from both areas. As it breathes though the initial peppermint gives way to deeper and darker aromas of blackcurrant and a little dark chocolate. The palate is firmly held with sinewy tannins and a decent hit of oak. Needs a little time to start hitting its best.

Open knit aromas of plums, mulberries, pencil shavings and a leafy edge. Generously-flavoured and quite ripe with loads of dark, fleshy fruits. There's a menthol edge and plenty of tannin and structure to remind you that you're in cabernet country. Very good length, mouth-feel and presence.

A very good vintage of what is already a perennially winning blend of fruit from two prime South Australia locations (56% Clare Valley, 44% Coonawarra Valley). The first thing that always springs to mind when I nose this wine is After Eight dark chocolate dinner mints—yes, its herbal nature is that distinct. Aromas of dark fruit (blackberry, blackcurrant and blueberry), cassis and tobacco all meld together in a supporting role. There’s more of that dark fruit and a dusting of dark chocolate on the fleshy, silky palate, while the tannins are medium at most. The alcohol is once again listed at 14.5%, but, as is typical with this cabernet, there’s no hint of it being that strong on either the nose or palate. The fact that it’s a great looking label only adds to its gift-ability.

A deep ruby-red colour, almost opaque in the core. A generous nose of black fruits and choc-mint notes. A full-bodied cabernet with classic blackberry fruits and leafy notes. The back-palate sits a little dense with a mocha oak tone. Good length and carries ample tannins to dry the finish well

Screw cap. Fresh, medium-high intensity nose is cool, minty and leafy herbal, layered with red and black fruits, currant, and cassis aromas with gentle wood spice accents. On the ripe, full-bodied palate, it has delicious mint, leafy herb, blackberry, and dark currant flavours with touches of tobacco leaf and coffee, supported by succulent, balanced acidity and fine, structured, well-integrated, and slightly chalky tannins. Some intriguing salty and tangy notes on the mid-palate, while the finish has savoury, woody and hints of coffee, with very good length. Great vintage for this wine. Recommended buy.

The Cabernet Sauvignon is stunning: very aromatic and complex in aroma and flavor (blackberry, cassis, eucalyptus, mint, black currant, black licorice, pepper, oak), with supple texture, full body, a long and vibrant palate impression, and a very persistent finish. Tremendous value; a wine with 5-8 years of aging potential. Perhaps the best-ever Jaraman Cabernet Sauvignon. 56% Clare Valley, 44% Coonawarra. Aged 10+ months in French oak barrels.
