Tasting Notes

Nose: Perfumed and concentrated with great focus and balance between exuberant fresh vinosity and fine-grain oak that closes around the youthful bouquet and keeps it in check.

Palate:The wine is beautiful in the mouth, with classic savoury tannins and yet an explosive core of generously proportioned cassis and dark fruits at its heart. Finely stated oak tannins and vinous richness intertwine perfectly on the palate and lead to a thoroughly satisfying, elegant and tightly-defined finish, full of great promise for an extended and highly rewarding maturation in the cellar.

Colour: At release, the wine displays a pristine clarity and brilliance in the glass with excellent deep ruby hue and a deep, dark core.

Oak Maturation:

Vintage Condition: The 2010 growing season in the Clare Valley commenced with above average winter/spring rainfall which filled profiles in the soil to saturation points not seen in the past three seasons. During flowering in November an unprecedented heat wave occurred; the Clare Valley experienced 13 consecutive days above 30?C. This heat-wave coincided with the peak of vine flowering, which resulted in reduced yields across almost all varieties at harvest. The heat-wave was finally broken by some much needed rainfall, which reinvigorated the vines perfectly. While temperatures were a little higher than average during late January and February, the evenings and mornings were cool and mild, contributing to favourable sugar, flavour and tannin ripening conditions and in particular, resulting in wines of extraordinary character

Cellaring Notes: Immediately approachable but will cellar well in ideal conditions for up to 20 years from vintage date.
