Nose There are lifted aromas of black plum and blackberry fruit along with a hint of coffee bean and spice.
Palate This is a luscious wine with layers of flavours of dark berry fruit, ripe cherries and plum along with attractive oak characters of roasted coffee beans and spice. Overall, the wine is well balanced with well-integrated tannins providing the palate with firm structure and persistent length.
Vintage Conditions In the Clare Valley, the growing season was characterised as warm and dry for vintage 2018, the only year in recent times warmer was 2016, which produced some excellent, award-winning wines. One of the great things about this vintage, though, was that we avoided any major heatwaves during vintage which can be very damaging and so to that end, vintage was relatively calm and controlled. Overall, our winemaking team are very excited about the quality of the wines from this vintage.
In McLaren Vale, the 2018 vintage is being touted as producing wines of excellent quality. The previous wet season set the vines up to be lush and healthy through the early part of this season and that boded well as the conditions throughout summer and into vintage were unusually dry. Favourable conditions ensued leading to perfect mild days and cool nights, perfect for harvest.
Oak Maturation The wine was matured in a mixture of coopers?American oak hogsheads (30% 1 year old and 70% 2-3 year old for 14 months before being bottled.
Cellaring Notes Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.

Highly perfumed aromas of roses and violets introduce this fabulous shiraz. An oxymoron that it’s both delicate and powerful, but it is. It’s also medium-full bodied and silky smooth on the palate with fruit-forward flavours of sweet ripe bramble berry melding perfectly with crunchy pie cherry adorned with dark chocolate, grilled savory herbs and espresso roast gliding easily over the palate infusing the finish and aftertaste. It’s all underpinned with a dollop of ripe tannin adding structure and interest. Drink now after a two-hour aeration/decant on its own or alongside this fabulous recipe from the late, great James Beard for marinated filet of beef.

The Clare Valley makes some of the most unique Shiraz in the country. It’s big and bold in a typical South Australian style but there is also some added depth. More black fruits than red and also an intriguing savoury, even a little rustic, edge. This wine, which also has some fruit from McLaren Vale, screams Clare from every pore with its deep, black as night colour. It is very much a typically forceful Clare style with very complex tarry, licorice, blackberry fruits and savoury spice backed by vanillin oak. It is then dry, bold, savoury and brooding on the palate. Youthful too with some balanced tannins so will age well. Tackle this wine now with well-cooked steak.

Concentrated cassis, dark berry, liquorice, spice, anise and oak flavours. A core of decadent sweet fruit is perfectly balanced by soft, ripe tannins. Deliciously approachable now but no rush.

A deep ruby verging on opaque. Lifted. Aromas of lilac and assorted florals to blue fruits. Grapey. Beautifully extracted, with the emphasis on a flow of pulpy, joyous fruit. Lavender, boysenberry, anise and a brush of refined tannins, defined by well nestled oak (all American: 30% new; 14 months) and gentle feeling acidity.

It’s almost always a solid wine and it is again here. There’s plenty of oak but it’s in good proportion to the fruit here. Toast, malt and caramel with blackberry, plum and asphalt. Peppercorn/choc-mint too and positively so. Feels sturdy. Robust even. It’s good now and it will hold for quite some time.

Ripe, dark fruited bouquet with black currant and black pepper, dark raspberry and vanilla oak scents. On the palate - fleshy, fruity, silky textured wine with flavours that reflect the nose. Fine tannins, medium acid-line, balanced and well made, ready to enjoy from today and through 2022.

Blending top class fruit from two of South Australia’s greatest wine regions, this shiraz heaves with personality and ‘drink me’ deliciousness. Intensely plummy and edged with cocoa and fruitcake spices, it’s a wine with super-smooth, elastic tannins and a long, satisfying finish. Warming, woolly and will seriously impress your dinner party guests when served with oxtail ragu.

This release carries plenty of gold and silver medals from both foreign and domestic shows/competitions on the label, while the full sheet of accolades runs double that in length. Concentrated, almost opaque purple. Concentrated blackberry and plum with darker elements of ferrous steel, sweaty blood, earthy garam spice with roast coffee beans and toasted coconutty oak. Stays on the just full side of medium to ensure some levity remains. Has a syrupy, sumptuous creamy texture that holds its persistence of dark berry flavour before ratcheting the screws to show plenty of silky fine tannin.

Shiraz with elegance made from 72% Clare Valley grapes and 28% McLaren Vale grapes, which comes from a relatively dry summer in both Clare Valley and in the McLaren Vale, south of Adelaide. This 2018 vintage was a return to the drier conditions that winemakers in both regions expect (ie, drier than the previous relatively wet year of 2017). This wine was aged in a mix of American oak hogsheads, 30% one year old and 70% two to three year old barrels for 14 months before bottling. It’s deep ruby in colour with ripe dark fruit flavours and a dry, full bodied style. It can be enjoyed now but will benefit from further aging for at least 7 to 8 years, and beyond. The alcohol is 14.5% ABV but this wine carries it well with its full body and ripe fruit flavours.

Spicy nose of plums and cassis, opens up as a generous Aussie shiraz with a rich palate of blackberries, dark fruits and poached plum with a spicy length of flavour. Not an over the top style, it clocks in at 14.5% alcohol. A fantastic food match with tomato-based Italian dishes.
