Cabernet Sauvignon
Single Variety
Coonawarra 76% / Clare Valley 24%
At release, the wine has a deep ruby red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges.
There are lifted aromas of dark blackcurrant fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt.
On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.
A percentage of the wine was barrel fermented and the final blend was matured in a mixture of fine-grained French and water-bent American oak barrels for 12 months prior to filtering and bottling.
In Coonawarra, the 2015 season began well with average winter rainfall. Spring however was very dry and one of the warmest ever. Dry conditions continued through December but then the vines received refreshing rain in mid-January. The summer, however, was classic with warm days and cool nights, thus providing ideal conditions. In the Clare Valley, the growing season leading up to vintage 2015 saw slightly higher than average rainfall initially and then very little fell, with the driest ever August recorded. Rainfall for spring was also well below average, with frost events recorded and then warm and windy weather adversely affecting yields. December and January were relatively mild, with rain falling during the second week of January. Overall whilst yields were down, quality was high.
Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.
