Tasting Notes

Nose: There are lifted aromas of dark blackcurrant fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt.

Palate:On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.

Colour: At release, the wine has a deep ruby red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges.

Details

Grape Variety: Cabernet Sauvignon

Dry/Sweet: Dry

Vintage: 2017

Range: Jaraman

Blend or Single: Single Variety

Region: Clare Valley 56% / Coonawarra 44%

Wine Body: Full

Oak Maturation: A percentage of the wine was barrel fermented and the final blend was matured in a mixture of fine-grained French and water-bent American oak barrels for 12 months prior to filtering and bottling.

Vintage Condition: In the Clare Valley, the growing season leading up to vintage 2017 saw above average winter rainfall. Weather conditions during flowering were favourable and fruit set was good across all varieties. Harvest began in late February and picking continued at a slow and steady rate until early May due to the prevailing mild conditions. Overall, or winemakers have declared the vintage to be above average vintage in terms of quantity and fruit quality. In Coonawarra, a cool growing season and above average winter rains leading into the vintage saw the region return to what could be best described as a more traditional Coonawarra vintage. Cooler conditions delayed budburst and this was followed by a mild summer although there was a welcome spell of warmth in late January. A late start to vintage meant many were concerned with the highly variable weather that can occur into late autumn. Overall, winemakers report wines of good quality with the reds showing deep colour and elegant fruit flavours.

Cellaring Notes: Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.
