Generous ripe fruit flavours of the Clare Valley are balanced with elegant, fine tannins, lifted mint character and velvety finish of the Coonawarra.
Coonawarra 60% / Clare Valley 40%
At release, the wine has a deep ruby red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges.
There are lifted aromas of dark blackcurrant fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt.
On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.
American oak was employed for its ability to deliver robust characters. After maturing in oak for a period of 10 months, the wine was blended, filtered and bottled.
Coonawarra received good winter rains leading into the growing season. A cool and dry April was perfect for ripening, allowing full flavour development and optimal sugar levels. Yields of red wine varieties were average to slightly below the long-term averages. All in all, winemakers have declared the vintage 2019 in Coonawarra to be excellent. In the Clare Valley, the growing season leading up to vintage saw lower than average winter and spring rainfall. This, along with some hail and frost events, affected yields overall. There were some extreme weather conditions during the growing season, including the lowest temperature recorded in spring and the highest ever temperature in summer, but overall, the vines showed great resilience and wine quality is excellent across the classic varieties.
Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.
