A crowd pleaser. Sweet cherry to boysenberry fruit flowing across well applied seams of bourbon-scented American oak.

Toasty, creamy...full-bodied and amazingly supple, with a broad, voluptuous mouthfeel that's balanced by a long, spice-driven finish.

Region Clare Valley
Colour At release, the wine has a concentrated ruby red colour with a dark mahogany hue to the edge.
Nose The wine is complex and enticing with red berry fruits, dark chocolate, dusty spice, and hints of charcuterie, cigar box and roasted coffee.
Palate The wine is rich and complex with layers of flavour. Dark berry fruits combine with lashings of coffee, chocolate and spice from high quality oak. The fruit and oak weight create a multidimensional palate which is defined with well-balanced, elegant tannins. This is a very generous wine with textural complexity and long, persistent flavours.
Vintage Conditions In the growing season leading up to vintage 2017, winter rainfall was above average and the corresponding low soil temperatures resulted in budburst occurring up to a month later than in recent years. Weather conditions during flowering were favourable and fruit set was good across all varieties. Harvest began in late February and picking continued at a slow and steady rate until early May due to the prevailing mild conditions. Overall, or winemakers have declared the vintage to be above average in terms of quantity and fruit quality.
Oak Maturation A percentage of the fruit for this wine was fermented in headless American oak barrels and left to soak on skins for 2 weeks. Post fermentation, the wine was matured for 20 months in high quality water-bent American oak barrels.
Cellaring Notes Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.

St. Andrews Shiraz is often a big, mouthfilling and teeth-staining style of Clare Valley red – usually with a big whack of oak. They are the kind of wines that are built to impress. But in 2017 (the winemakers) have dialled it all back and the wine is better for it, creating a more subtle and reserved expression of this well-known label. The wine is quite deeply coloured and shows ripe mulberry and blackberry fruit which is made more appealing by layers of savoury complexity. There is baked earth, dried meat and spice with subtle oak sitting in the background. It is then dry and mid-weight, the usual plush St Andrews fruits replaced by a more supple and compact wine with good concentration that finishes with hints of tobacco and licorice with lingering tannins. Food friendly, you could match it up with Shepherds pie or go all out with slow-cooked beef fillet.

A crowd pleaser. Sweet cherry to boysenberry fruit flowing across well applied seams of bourbon-scented American oak. Nothing drying or excessive. Simply full-bodied, plush and unashamedly on-fruit, with a chord of contemporary floral to iodine reduction as a lead riff.

Toasty, creamy and loaded up with vanilla, baking spices and ripe plums, the barrel-fermented 2017 St Andrews Shiraz is full-bodied and amazingly supple, with a broad, voluptuous mouthfeel that's balanced by a long, spice-driven finish.

Medium to deep ruby-red that fades slightly to the rim. Lift of blood plums, coconut and mocha on the nose. Choc-mint on the palate. Layered with rich Bounty bar oak characters. Good length and quite supple in its flow to the long finish.
