Generous ripe fruit flavours of the Clare Valley are balanced with elegant, fine tannins, lifted mint character and velvety finish of the Coonawarra.
Clare Valley 52% / Coonawarra 48%
At release, the wine has a deep ruby red colour to the centre with a youthful purple hue to the edges.
There are lifted aromas of dark blackcurrant fruit along with subtle choc-mint and a hint of eucalypt.
On the palate, this is a rich, full-bodied wine with intense flavours of cassis and blackberry fruit along with attractive oak characters of cigar box and tobacco leaf. Overall, the wine is well balanced with complex, well-integrated, elegant tannins providing structure and an intense, persistent length to the finish.
The wine was matured in French oak barrels (50% 1 year old, 50% a combination of 2 and 3 year old) for a period of 10 – 12 months before being bottled.
The season for vintage 2020 in the Clare Valley started with challenging weather events, including spring frosts at budburst and then hot and windy conditions during flowering. The start of summer brought wild weather; from searing heat and bushfires to heavy rain and chilly, gusty winds. February and March saw weather conditions return to relatively normal, and harvest progressed smoothly and steadily. While it was a very tough year for growers, the quality of the fruit was high. In Coonawarra, the season began well with good rainfall between May and September and the region was fortunate not to have been affected by the bush fires that occurred throughout the summer. Whilst yields were down, warm days and cool nights provided the perfect ripening conditions for Cabernet Sauvignon and the wines from this vintage look excellent.
Crafted for immediate enjoyment but will cellar over a long term under ideal conditions.
